Learning to recognize note names and note values, but has not applied this to the instrument yet.
Can recognize and play notes, rests, and basic rhythmic patterns; can identify the difference between steps and skips on the staff. Plays in first and second positions.
Understands simple time signatures and key signatures; can read basic rhythmic patterns, sharps and flats; recognizes intervals and can play melodies containing all of the above. Plays in first through fourth positions.
Understands compound time signature; all key signatures; can read in bass and tenor clef. Plays in first through seventh positions.
